The NCTK Institute is organizing a seminar on “Gigo Toys: Developing Character and Competence for Children in Preschools and Primary Schools.”

On the morning of June 20th, at the School Design Research Institute, Director Pham Ngoc Phuong chaired a seminar entitled “Gigo Toys: Fostering Character and Competence for Children in Preschools and Primary Schools.” Mr. Ta Ngoc Don, Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment (Ministry of Education and Training), and Mr. Pham Hung Anh, Director of the Department of Infrastructure (Ministry of Education and Training), attended the seminar.

Director Pham Ngoc Phuong delivered the opening speech at the seminar

Ms. Chen Ching Fang, General Director of New Brain Trading and Services Company Limited, the authorized distributor of Gigo Toys in Vietnam, stated that Gigo’s products include over 1,000 types, which are applied by international schools in STEAM classes. The core value of Gigo Toys lies in providing students with creativity and problem-solving skills during play. For preschool teachers, Gigo’s educational equipment products demonstrate significant advantages in being used as teaching aids to organize learning and play activities, making learning more enjoyable.

Ms. Chen Ching Fang introduced the Gigo toy set

“Ms. Chen Ching Fang emphasized that the value of Gigo toys is not measured by material possessions, but behind each set of toys lies the goal of developing specific skills for students. Students simply need to play, and through consistent play, those goals will become the students’ abilities in the future,” Ms. Chen Ching Fang stated.

About a month after signing the memorandum of cooperation in April 2018, NewBrain Vietnam Company handed over a sample of Gigo toy equipment to the School Design Research Institute. Currently, this set of toy equipment has been experimented with at the Linh Dam Practice Kindergarten. The BillGates inter-level school is also using this equipment.

Highly praising the teaching aids and Gigo toys in kindergarten, Ms. Vu Nguyet Anh (Linh Dam Practice Kindergarten) stated that after researching and interacting with 7 Gigo products, she was most impressed with the STEAM product line.

Mr. Pham Hung Anh, Director of the Department of Infrastructure (Ministry of Education and Training), delivered a speech at the workshop.

“Through practical and experiential methods, the STEAM set helps preschool children develop harmoniously in physical, cognitive, linguistic, emotional – social skills, and aesthetics; it fosters integrated thinking in 5 areas: science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. With 120 familiar-themed lessons, children have the opportunity to explore scientific knowledge, functions, and principles of motion. They learn through playing activities covering various topics from simple to complex. The product range also contributes to developing children’s teamwork skills, logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities,” Ms. Vu Nguyet Anh shared.

Over the course of a year collaborating with the School Design Research Institute and Gigo Company, Ms. To Thi Thanh Thuy – a teacher at Thai Thinh Primary School – was tasked with creating a user manual and coordinating experiential use of Gigo teaching aids and toys at the primary school.

Ms. Thuy noted that some Gigo products bear similarities to existing learning tools used in primary schools, while others introduce entirely new learning tools.

“I’m particularly impressed with the math balance set. It’s a completely new learning tool that I’ve encountered for the first time. The plastic balance has legs and a stand, with two sides having scales numbered from 1 to 10. Students can use plastic cards hung on corresponding hooks on both sides of the scale to create addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division tables, solving related mathematical problems visually and vividly,” Ms. To Thi Thanh Thuy shared.
